This meter measures the UV radiation between 250 and 400 nanometers, and is measured in µmol m-2 s-1 (micromoles of photons per square meter second). The photon flux of UV radiation (250 to 400 nm) can be expressed as a percentage of the Photosynthetic Photon Flux (PPF; 400 to 700 nm). The unit for both UV and PPF is µmol m-2 s-1. The total photon flux of UV radiation from sunlight is close to 8.5 % of the PPF in sunlight. The photosynthetic photon flux at noon in full sunlight is about 2000 µmol m-2 s-1 and the photon flux of UV radiation is about 170 µmol m-2 s-1. Apogee UV meters and sensors are calibrated in sunlight against a LI-COR spectroradiometer. Plants use some types of radiation more than others This meter measures the UV radiation between 280 and 315nm and is particularly useful for determining the UV filtering capacity of transpartent plastic and glass barriers that are used below electric lamps. Range is 0 to 200.0 umol m-2s-1(full sunlight). Includes one 9-volt battery.
